Ladies and gentlemen...who surely do not give two fucks....I shameful present as promised...one obscure day in the past....The blog about Rob Liefeld. Yeah you thought omfg its a sequel to his best selling book....was it a bestseller? Is it even out? Who knows...just buy that shit! Buy five of them...get Rob to sign em and doodle on the cover...maybe he will put the pen in his ass to make it more interesting....Ok ok that aside, im going to give you a realistic analysis of the guy from the point of view of a past fan. Boring? Probably. Waste of my time? Definitely. Getting paid? Its about Rob Lifeld....of course not, but the checks in the mail....ok so here we go *que some star wars sounding shit up*
Long ago....in a galaxy far far away...seriously it feels like that...so much BULLSHIT has changed for the worse, came a young man with quite a bit of ambition....yes this one is gonna end up killing some eyes but less than Heroes Reborn did....Anyways lets get real, like my kind of fucking real kick off your shoes take your pants off jack off play with your pussy or ass or handle some snakes whatever you guys do. It's about Rob Lifeld and me routing in a way for the underdog. This guy has been in comics since like 1987...doing some work for ex mutants or some such...then in 1988 did some Hawk and Dove, which I liked a lot...shit I still like...this work was a prime example of Rob even if he was just starting out. The he did some work on what if...Wolverine was an agent of shield, awesome book from memory....more great looking art for the time...I read it when it was new but may go back and find it again. Then he did some fill in issues and covers on stuff like -men and X-Factor too during this time which I liked, the x-men issue especially as it was a parody issue and once again I keep how it was when I was a kid in mind when I think about it....
Then in 1989 or so Rob started his work on The New Mutants...and yes this is like a run down of what I remember to get the uniformed informed thank you, the covers were killer fucking awsome. Rob penciled them, and Todd McfuckingFarlane inked them. I think they should have kept this duo going it was uncalled for how good it looked and still does in a lot of ways to me. Check out the covers from New Mutants 85-89 then 93. Shit was good. Rob took The New Mutants from being the red headed x stepchildren to damn near the top before he cancled it out with isssue 100. He also happened to create characters like deadpool, cable, shaterstar....I could go on for some pages on who he created but thats not needed...I really like the work on New mutants, espeacially issue 100...when I was a kid that shit kicked so much ass being a double size final issue...you could see the progression to what would be....
X-force came out with the atypical multi facet cover scandal bullshit, and I had most of them of course. This issue was ground breaking for me as a kid, it had some really badass art and colors like rob had been hiding out on his ability during the New Mutants days...the 90's were clearly in full swing by now..is this too long for you? Then go open the microwave...put some aresol cans in there...turn on the gas and hit that button that say start....since it aint even halfway over yet. Ok back to X-force, the art grabbed me even as a kid. Rob was a writter on this? As in plotting it, Fabian NIceza did the script...as a kid these issues kicked ass like a movie of course so rob was a badass writter as far as I was concerned. Rob was mia as of issue...six? I want to say and didnt return to X-force quite suddenly which was nearing the end of my marvel collecting days....I was still of course without the internet which wasnt a mainstream componet yet...so I couldnt just clck godle I mean google...and ask it where he had gone.
Thats when I saw the solicit for Youngblood...or a mention of it in like previews...that shit was like the new york times when I was a kid....it was talking about malibu comics publishing robs new creator owned shits....and everyone was pulling their hair out and putting cigarettes out on themselves in anticipation of it...this of course ended up turning into Image comics....which I have a trilogy blog already dedicated to in some sort.....so this is going to stick to Rob. Youngblood was...well I dont know what I said before about it, but it looked...odd? The color was all different, and the script...well it sucked bad. I feel looking back the xforce stuff was better than the first issue of young blood, which seemed kind of like a one off story in the middle of a series....Rob's art was about like it had been when X-force ended so I suppose he was cresting in capability here.
Ok flash forward like...nine months, youngblood number two comes out. It kicks more ass than number one since the art is better, and the story is all wierd and freaked out with alien time travel geriatric stranglers and shit. I was like wow I like this shit...it was worth the wait once it came and you were a kid....before the cynicysm bug bit too deep....Then flash forward again. I dont know seems like a fucking year but I dont think it was that long. Youngblood number 3. I barely remember it at all, so it was probably not as much of an upgrade as two was, and was late as shit I want to say it was out when it was cold...and I was wanning on buying youngblood since funds were scarce and I was hooked on spawn like hugh grant on hookers and cocaine.
Ok Im going to call this long ass affair here and give you a break. Im going to give you the dos part in a while...when this shit has faded off some, since you can only read a book a day so many time before you finally let the animal out of the cage and go all gta at the zoo.
