So Here we are back for another installment of my homage to Rob Liefeld. Well, ok not so much a homage, as it is an explanation of what I think which is of course right. Oh, its been a long time? Well fuck it I decided it needs to be a long time between epic massive the size of my cock painted red with white stripes on fire blogs. So this is going to be where we start to roll with more What If’s than a guy that didn’t know his hooker had a penis….
Ok so youngblood number four hits…but its like half an issue and by now I don’t give two shits. Youngblood has branched out into multiple tittles no one gives a fuck about, then I happen upon an issue of Youngblood strike file. Its half Rob Liefeld and half Jae lee. Its pretty racy, and not half bad….well as far as this works goes with Rob writing half and Eric Stephenson doing the other. This is where Rob was shinning he was doing alright work and his writing as I'm sure I said before isn't half bad…for the nineties and hey who am I to insult someones writing…you gotta be pretty bad for that shit to fly strait. Rob also around this time woes some odd talent like Stephen Platt who does his work on Prophet….odd guy there like a cross between Todd Mcfarlane and Dale Keown, don’t ask me…heavy detail but has this Simon Beasly action bent to his work *Simon Beasly worked on Lobo, Judge Dredd notably Judge Dredd/Batman, and over at veritok comics. Google it people, this shit is common knowledge to me…but for some of us…
One of the last things I remember as OMFG from Rob was Darker Image issue 1. It was a story with bloodwulf, a lobo knockoff from hell….but a badass funny story drawn in the style of Kief Giffen. It was badass and Im betting still is even if I looked at it today….why? Because I think Rob had fun with it…and its more a parody than anything so he didn’t have to worry about a lot of bullshit over it. But lets flash forward Im done collecting and just get a side glance at wizard comics or an odd an in issue at a buddies house. Time passes, women cum and women go…weed blazes and alcohol gets consumed. Comics are in the grave for me now or so I thought.
A long long time later I kind of get that itch to just randomly google shit since Im bored as hell and run up on some Liefeld work at marvel…not heros reborn….that shit will make you gay or star in a movie called Beverly Hills cop. No I caught some work from a guess a return to xforce by Rob, its looked very Image but his proportions were better, and I guess he had a badass color job since the shit popped. I like Robs work I don’t know why…it used to remind me of Art Adams, sorry Art but I was a kid…maybe I neeeded glasses. Anyways this stuff I still say is some of robs best work I have seen….ever. It was like his original work in comics but a lot more stylized and current.
Fast forward some years…I get a kindle fire for christmas, and it ships with this nice comixology app I say what the hell Ill get some comics, since they are cheap and no hasstle now…I debate what titles and settle on Batman, Suicide Squad, Swamp thing and Hawk and Dove. Don’t ask me why I was like hmm Liefeld back on hawk and dove…ok ill give it a shot. Well its ok, kind of short on detail…like it’s a bit rushed, and the writing sucks bad. I mean worse than the nineties. I drop the book by issue four…I hear Rob took over the writing…I pick up issue seven, its alright but he isnt inking the whole thing…the writing is better, like if Alan Moore was writing this blog. I continue with swamp thing and Batman but drop my other titles to save on money.
Then I see Rob Liefeld on a deathstroke cover….i look it up on the site….bam Rob Liefeld finally doing Deathstroke. Im kind of curious…again? Yeah I think its like smoking crack your like Im not doing it again….but you still suck that glass dick anyways….I pick it up. It has some meh moments….but its ok, looks like he likes death stroke, I wish it looked like that xforce shit from a few years earlier. Then I flip through a bit and see the plot unfolding, deathstroke must kill…………..que the dun dun dun…………… Lobo! Da fuck you say? Yeah I was like omfg Rob. Just save up and do Lobo ffs in your giffin style, it would kick ass. Do you need an agent rob? Ill hook you the fuck up, and I can ink your shit on the side like everyone at Extreme used to do uncreditd to boot.
So here’s what I think Rob Should do. Hook up with Todd more for some pieces, their work together is BADASS. Like do a Deathstroke and have Todd Ink it, do it in that Xforce style which also kicked ass. Do some more fun stuff like you did with Blood Wulf, hence my Lobo suggestion. Do not do batman…ever. How about aquaman, seriously rob, you do teams every damned time outside deathstroke, try this one….do some backgrounds in it though, I know you can I saw em in your older works. Also go back to marvel and do a retro new mutants story. Like your pre Xforce team….just for shits man, people would buy it and lastly…..do something with I hate to say it but I like you Rob…you got potential if you take your time…..and work at it, a Spiderman one shot. Yeah I LOVE spidey, but robs spiderman isnt half bad. Coming from me you should be cutting me a check right now rob but Im feeling generous. Do not write it though, let a guy like David Michiline write it and I promise you I will pick it up and promote that shit here to boot.
Before I forget…I’ve seen a lot of the hate besides what I have spewed out my ass about Rob here…and you fuckers need to learn the man does what he does and it is comics. Can you draw? Do you write? How many comics you got out? Ah ok, say the same about me? Fuck you I can draw lol and write. But Im not doing comics sue me….dont try to fuck me you bastards…im not your sister I don’t have a hairy hole for you furry dreams like she does. So yeah keep hating rob…and me fuck it, your wife and girlfriend don’t….I think rob and me should toss them hoes up…and your mom fuck it.
