Now I don't have the most reading experience with What If? Other's I know may well have read more of them, I don't in my defense, due to the fact that the later part of Volume two had a lot of....well.....shitty creative teams working on them. Ah yes, early to mid nineties Marvel. The Image crew leaves and you try to open you cloning tanks early.....I bet you wish you had a What If? Image Comic's never formed out there fr. Take a quick rocket ship to that shit I bet.
Ok, seriously though. What If? Before the shit show, and sometimes even after had some real cool shit in it. Before the Image melt down it had some low key high end talent work on some this too. I may throw some shade at Rob Liefeld, but his issue with What If? Wolverine was an Agent of Shield, was some cool shit. Damn good story and artwork there, even if it wasn't much of a stretch, was cool. It was else worlds before Dc figured out you could do them, and they have done them....brought the good into cannon I will not fault that, but this is about the big papa What If?
Stories like What If? Doctor Doom was a hero....that some cool shit. What If? Conan came to the modern day, wait that's Volume one for probably both of those.....well shit. I don't think I have that much What If shit to share sadly. But It's got this whole Mandela effect going on, it's some cool shit you see and believe you knew all along like deja vu. It's like you threw some kids in a room with some comics then had them tell someone about the comics. It's just some cool ass shit.
How about I pitch one out.....real world meets comic worlds and shit......What If? Charlie Sheen had been Iron Man! wait....alcoholic....check, hiv infection....check....winning....check. Well shit outside the whole being smart thing...I don't think this story would have gone much different. Should I do another? No? yeah your right...I see I'm drowning here, and after shitting in the pool no less.
Moral of the story though? Go read some old What If? Someone somewhere....really tried on this shit. Like fr, and as much as I rant, rave and bullshit....I believe the creative effort and vision of everyone....when genuine that is. Is important and something to be proud of.
